Short Description
“Wasserfallen Rundweg” (“Round Tour of Wasserfallen”) is as the name suggests, a loop around “Wasserfallen”, a location that does not as the name would suggest contain any waterfalls.
What it is, is the highest point in the canton of Basel (for what it’s worth), offering a panoramic view of the landscapes in the north and south. On clear days this means seeing Schwarzwald on one side and the Alps on the other.
The starting point can be reached by cable car or car, though parking is limited.
Notes
- If arriving by public transport, the cable car becomes non-optional.
Impressions
A light, short, easy, low altitude hike is what we were looking for to start the season. Both to warm up and because the higher altitudes were still covered in snow. And that’s exactly what we got from the Wasserfallen trail.
There’s honestly not all that much more to say. It was nice. Not too many people. Lovely landscapes. Signage in the partially french-speaking part of the trail (Solothurn) suddenly much more ambiguous than in Basel.
I think this trail is perfect for early spring, or if you want something light in general.
