Short Description
‘Mittelberg Weg’ is a short and easy circular winter hiking trail starting from Parpan (Graubünden, Switzerland).
Of interest along the route are, apart from the gorgeous landscapes:
- An alpine cheesery, where the interested hiker can learn about the process of making cheese, although they do of course leave out the horrific realities of dairy farming.
- Castle Parpan, though it’s more of a manor.
Notes
- Large stretches of the trail are shared with (cross country) skiers.
Impressions
Another gorgeous winter day invited our second ever winter hike, this time the ‘Mittelberg Weg’ trail from Parpan.
This being a popular ski region, some heavy foot traffic was to be expected, but it still made us uncomfortable, given the currently raging second wave of Covid. At least it was outside.
Also to be expected was the fact that the trail would be a piste, and that parts of it would be shared with skiers. Even though that’s less than ideal, we enjoyed great views of the Graubünden Alps around us.
A little too soon we had reached the end of the trail and made our way home having enjoyed a lovely day outside. Was it our most interesting hike? No, but it was a pleasant long walk. Would I drive here again just for this? probably not.
